Robert Flynn brings almost 25 years of experience of management of growth stage enterprises in in a number of new media and traditional entertainment endeavors. Most recently he was CEO and Co-Founder of Modern Feed & Supply, Inc., whose online guide to professionally-created broadband video content is positioned to become a leader in enabling the navigation for consumers of the huge amount of television-like video content available legally on the Internet. In addition to identifying the strategic vision for the company, Mr. Flynn was instrumental in defining the product vision, putting together the core technology team, raising startup and growth capital and positioning the company to derive revenue from online advertising, referral fees and licensing.
Before this he was the CEO of Zetools, Inc., a pioneering software company providing enterprise class solutions for the formatting, management and distribution of IP video across all IP-based platforms through one-button publishing. Under Mr. Flynn’s leadership, the company grew its product suite and patent portfolio; developed customer relationships with AOL, ABC Television, Viacom’s TVLand, and Walmart, among others; and developed strategic relationships with technology partners such as Microsoft, Digital Rapids and Tarari, that increased the company’s product offering and/or distribution channels. During Mr. Flynn’s tenure, the company was recognized for its achievements by being nominated for nine Emmy Awards, and in both 2004 and 2005, Zetools was awarded Emmy Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Interactive TV. As the leader of its strategic and financial efforts, Mr. Flynn also managed the company’s merger with Tandberg Television.
Prior to this, Mr. Flynn was SVP Business Development and Co-Founder of Liquid Audio, Inc. Liquid Audio was the first company to develop a complete software platform for the legal distribution and commerce of digital media on the Internet. In addition to being responsible for all of the business and corporate development activities of the company which generated most of the company’s revenues, Mr. Flynn’s responsibilities included the Company’s sales and business affairs activities, development of its strategic relationships with entertainment industry and technology partners, and in helping to set the strategic direction for the company. At founding, Mr. Flynn was also the CFO of the company leading the company through its three rounds of private financing, and after it went public was appointed to its Board of Directors.
Before this, Mr. Flynn was a founding partner in Entertainment-Media Venture Partners, a institutional venture capital fund investing in technology companies focused on the entertainment and media industries, and in buyouts of entertainment and media companies, such as television stations, cable systems and movie theatre chains. At EMV, Mr. Flynn was responsible for setting investment strategy as well as finding, analyzing, investing in and monitoring portfolio companies. Prior to this, Mr. Flynn was Director, Corporate Development for Oldcastle, Inc., an investment holding company, where he was primarily involved in the company’s active program of acquiring businesses. Mr. Flynn started his career in management at AT&T’s Pacific Telephone subsidiary. In addition to the Liquid Audio Board of Directors, Mr. Flynn has sat on the Boards of Directors of Zetools, Inc., Integrated Media Systems, EMV Cable Corp. and Act III Theatres. Mr. Flynn has a BA from Stanford University and an MBA from the Anderson School of Management, UCLA.
